How we’re responding to the COVID-19 virus.

In our passion and support for those dealing with Alzheimer’s, we are always wanting to come up with new ideas to raise money and participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s organized by the Alzheimer’s Association. In 2016, each Cedarhurst community joined the cause in its own unique way.

Glik Park was the beautiful setting for Cedarhurst of Edwardsville’s residents, family members, staff and friends to enjoy a walk at the end of July. Following the exhilarating walk, everyone enjoyed light refreshments and the wonderful weather of the Summer day. Our Edwardsville community raised money for donations by selling t-shirts which were sported by many during the walk.

Cedarhurst of Collinsville hosted a huge event for the residents, staff family members and friends in the community on Grandparent’s Day. The Carnival for a Cause raised money by selling t-shirts and doing a cake walk with delicious donated baked goods. This carnival themed event was complete with fun games, delicious food and wonderful company. We were lucky enough to have our local first responders stop by as well as other prominent members of the local community. To complete their picturesque afternoon, Cedarhurst of Collinsville did a balloon release to show their support for those with Alzheimer’s Disease.

In Shiloh, our residents, family members and staff did a local satellite walk right in our own backyard. Complete with the signature purple balloon arch and directional signs, the community walks at Cedarhurst are always well-attended and a great success. Cedarhurst of Shiloh raised over $600 to donate to the Alzheimer’s Association; and it was great to see families come together and walk for a great cause. Our residents were so proud to cross the finish line.

Cedarhurst of Sparta did t-shirts sales and a wonderful bake sale to raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association. We even recruited our master baker residents to help with baking all of the delicious treats. These types of activities are so mutually beneficial and knowing the proceeds were going to a great cause was just the “icing on the cake”.

Cedarhurst Living had a presence at 3 of the local Alzheimer’s Association’s Walks to End Alzheimer’s. Our Illinois communities teamed up to spread the spirit for the Edwardsville walk at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville on Saturday, September 24 and at the Belleville walk at SWIC on Saturday, October 8. Our purple frosted donuts and signature purple Cedarhurst sunglasses have become a hit over the past few years and we kept the tradition going! Our home office team enjoyed walking at the St. Charles walk at St. Charles Community College on Saturday, October 1. We’re looking forward to having a full team of support at the St. Charles walk in 2017 after our community opens this upcoming Spring.
