How we’re responding to the COVID-19 virus.

Recently, Healthy Cells Magazine published an article regarding the signs and signals to look for when visiting family this holiday season.

What to Look for During the Holidays

All the hustle and bustle. All the preparation. Time for the holidays!

As the winter holiday season approaches, excitement about family gatherings escalates and we look forward to seeing friends and family we may not have seen for awhile. We look forward to “catching up” and enjoying quality time together.

With our busy lives, sometimes things take place before our very eyes without us really even noticing. This can be the case with aging friends or family members. We’re often times surprised when we see that Mom is having difficulty with simple daily activities of life such as doing laundry, bathing, or even getting ready for the day. Or Dad, who used to love to tinker in his workshop, but now prefers to sit inside in his recliner because it’s just too strenuous to get out to his workshop.

It is times like this that we have the reality check in our gut that says it may be time to discuss other living options with a loved one. It’s not easy. But think about the consequences. Falling down steps? Over or under-medicating oneself? Poor nutrition?   These individuals have worked hard all of their lives and deserve to have the best life possible. There are options today like never before.

What are some of the things to look for while you are together? Here are a few things of which to take notice:

  • May require in-home caregivers
  • Unable to maintain home
  • Forgetting to take medications
  • Difficulty bathing
  • Needs help getting dressed
  • Needs help with housekeeping or laundry
  • Difficulty walking
  • Difficulty with stairs
  • Frequent calls/visits to physicians or emergency room visits
  • History of falling
  • Not eating properly or skipping meals
  • No help nearby if emergency occurs
  • Dependent on family & friends
  • Afraid to be alone
  • Isolated or lonely
  • Unable to drive
